Introduction

Flax seed powder is a perfect side dish for rice. It is a healthy, delicious, and nutritious protein-packed dish to be included in your daily diet.

We can make a simple powder without any spices, but to make it more interesting better add spices.

Flaxseed may help lower the risk of some cancers, maintain a moderate weight, and reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. One serving of flaxseed provides protein, fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, and essential vitamins and minerals.

Flaxseeds are the best health foods and are well known for their omega-3 fatty acids, fiber. These seeds are used in various cuisines in different ways.

If you want to include flax seeds in your diet, this recipe is the best one to try. It is spicy, aromatic and addictive!

About the recipe

This recipe uses dals like chana dal, urad dal, cumin and garlic. Include more red chillis to get extra spiciness. Add extra chillis to get spicier. I prefer it less spicy so added only 10.  

Flax seeds take very little time to roast so first sauté dals, then chilis and lastly roast flax seeds. We can keep some seeds separately and add them to the powder to get the nutty flavour.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Flax Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Urad Dal
  • 1 tbsp Chana Dal
  • 10 Red Chillis
  • 12 Garlic
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • Pebble size Tamarind
  • 1 tsp Oil

Instructions
 

  • Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a pan.
  • Add urad dal and fry till they change colour.
  • Once urad dal started changing colour add chana dal and saute them together.
  • Transfer them to a plate and keep them aside.
  • Again heat 1/2 tsp oil and add cumin seeds.
  • As they start crackling add red chillis and tamarind.
  • Lastly add garlic and saute them again.
  • Keep them aside to cool.
  • Clean the kadai and add flax seeds and dry roast them.
  • Roast them till they crackle.
  • Keep them aside to cool.
  • In a blender jar add red chillis, tamarind and dals.
  • Do not add garlic and salt here.
  • Blend them coarsly.
  • Add flax seeds and again blend them.
  • Add garlic and blend once again.
  • Lastly add salt and combine all of them once again.
  • Serve spicy and delicious flaxseed powder with hot piping rice and a spoonful of ghee.

Notes

  • Dry roast flax seeds.
  • Add red chilli according to your taste.
  • Add salt in the last. 
  • Otherwise the powder turns out to be sticky.
  • You can add curry leaves and peanuts to make it more flavourful.
