This lauki chana dal is a nutritious, comforting curry recipe. Lauki is known as Sorakaya or anapakaya in Telugu. We make different varieties of recipes with this vegetable. It is good for health too.

It is a North Indian Punjabi style curry, the main ingredients in this recipe are Lauki or bottle gourd, chana dal (bengal gram). It is a flavourful recipe made along lauki and chana dal, added spices, tomatoes and chillis. It is served with rice or roti. I prefer to serve it with roti. It can be made in one-pot.
It is very easy to make. The recipe of Lauki Chana Dal can be made one-pot or even in pressure cooker. Lauki and soaked chana dal are first sauteed with tomato and onions, add ginger garlic paste and common Indian kitchen spices and then cook in a pressure cooker. Cooking in the pressure cooker would help in retaining the nutrients and also would increase the flavours.
Lauki or sorakaya is rich in nutrients, fiber rich vegetable. It is also low in calories, helps in weight management. It has rich water content keeps our body hydrated during summers. Fiber content present in sorakaya or lauki aids improving digestion, prevents constipation. Lauki may also helps in breaking down kidney stones and treating urinary tract infections.
Sorakaya can be made in South Indian style too, I would post different varieties of recipes made in South Indian style too soon.
