Wash and peel lauki, cut into bite size pieces.
Chop onions and tomatoes.
Soak chana dal for half an hour.
Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
Add ingredients under Tadka.
Saute them well and let the cumin starts spluttering.
Add chopped onions and fry till they change colour.
Add tomatoes and let them cook till turn mushy.
Add salt, turmeric powder and saute them.
Add soaked chana dal, lauki pieces too.
Combine all of them well.
Add red chilli powder, coriander powder and garam masala.
Mix them well and add 2 cups of water.
Pressure cook them for 3 to 5 whistles.
Let the pressure goes off and cooker cools down completely.
Mix them well and cook for another 3 to 5 minutes.
The curry should cook well and it should be wet only, like a gravy curry.
Serve lauki chana dal with rice or roti.
