Tomato Soup | home-made tomato soup for rice

Tomato soup, home-made tomato soup for rice, made with fully ripen tomatoes and added spices. A unique soup served with rice and and vangi bath.

Ingredients
  

  • 4 Large Tomatoes
  • Salt - to taste
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 3 tbsp Sugar

Ingredients for Tadka

  • 1 tsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 4 to 6 Curry Leaves
  • Fistful Coriander Leaves
  • 1 Red Chillies

Instructions
 

  • In a thick bottomed pan add water till the tomatoes cover.
  • Allow them to boil till the tomatoes become soft.
  • Blanch tomatoes. Allow them to cool.
  • Remove the skin and squeeze them and grind them into juice.
  • Sieve the juice. Add water to it.
  • Add turmeric powder, salt, red chili powder, sugar and black pepper powder.
  • Allow this to boil for 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Heat ghee in a pan add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and red chillies.
  • Add fresh curry leaves and coriander leaves.
  • Once they start spluttering add this tadka to the above boiling soup.
  • Serve hot tomato soup with hot piping rice and vangi bath.

Notes

Use only juicy and ripen tomatoes. 
Add sugar to reduce tangy taste of tomatoes.
Use only ghee for tadka, this would enhance taste.
The tomato soup is very thin in texture and consistency.
