Potlakaya Perugu Pachadi | | How to make Snake Gourd Raita

Potlakaya perugu pachadi or snake gourd thayir 
 chutney. Yogurt or perugu is an integral part of Andhra cuisine. Without which a meal is incomplete. We can make different varities of perugu papchadi with different vegetables. They are the best accompanied with rice as well as roti too. Perugu pachadi is neither too spicy nor too mild. Even toddlers too like them.

Snake Gourd or potlakaya perugu pachadi best side dish for rice and roti.

Ingredients:

  • 12 inches Long Snake Gourd/Potlakaya
  • 3 Gree Chillis
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 1 Tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 5 to 7 Curry Leaves
  • 2 Cups Curd
  • 1 Tsp Asafoetida

Procedure:

  1. Cut the snake gourd/potlakaya into 1″ cubes.
  2. Wash it thoroughly.
  3. Slit green chillies.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  5. When they start spluttering add curry leaves and green chillis. and saute them.
  6. Add washed potlakaya pieces.
  7. Saute them well and add salt and turmeric powder.
  8. Combine them well and add little water.
  9. Cook the potlakaya till it become soft and mushy on a medium flame.
  10. This may take 10 minutes.
  11. Once done transfer the curry into the serving bowl.
  12. Allow this cool completley.
  13. Once the potlakaya cooled completely add curd and mix it well.
  14. Serve potlakaya perugu pachadi with rice or roti.
