About Varalakshmi Vratam:

Varalakshmi vratam means performing a ritual to please the goddess Lakshmi, to grant us boons. It is a simple way of understanding the puja. This is mainly observed on the Friday before the day of the full moon day. Generally it falls in the months of July or August. If we cannot perform on that day we can do it any other Friday of the month Shravan. Depending on the female constraints.

Decorate a Kalasham according to our home tradition, like in my maternal home we decorate a brass or copper pot by applying chandan/Sandalwood cream all over it and decorate it with silver eyes, and nose. Decorating silver pot is one option too.

But again it vary from each household. Some people decorate it with a face mold made from silver and decorate it with a saree and hair. Nowadays everything is available in the market, get all of them and assemble to make a beautiful ammavaru.

Perform Lakshmi puja and render a special story for this. And all the ladies whoever have done this puja tie a 9 strings or 5 strings floral thread to their right hand, married and unmarried women respectively. It can be removed after 24 hours of puja or any other day of our choice.
