Amla Pickle | Amla Achar | Usirikaya Avakaya is a traditional spicy and tangy condiment,an Andhra-style pickle.
Indian gooseberry or usirikaya tastes sour, bitter and astringent. Vitamin C rich fruit and it is quite fibrous too. We can consume the fruit as it is also. It is also immunity booster.
Use best quality amla to make achar or pickle. Choose less spotty amla. This pickle can be stored for months.
Always use clean and dry spoons to serve the pickle.
Fry amla till they turn light brown and soft.
Usirikaya fried well and softened too.
Add all the condiments: salt, red chilli powder, fenugreek powder, mustard powder, hing and turmeric powder in the oil.
Mix all of them well and add fried amla/usirikayalu.
Lastly add lemon juice.
Immediately transfer to serving bowl to avoid de-coloring of the pickle.
